Campion Carter

I don't know what Campion would have thought about having his name show up in a blog but where better to pay tribute to our ever dedicated treasurer than here, the NTC blog.
Campion died on Tuesday evening, 5th October 2010 and left us sad but with many good memories of a kind and courteous man, always interested in what went on around him - especially if it had anything to do with the arts or rugby, not an obvious combination - and in the main, a happy person. The next time we meet for a Pub Night, we'll ask for our drinks to be served, not in a glass, but in a tankard and a left handed one to boot! I know he'll come back to haunt me, I still owe him a receipt..... Goodbye Campion, we'll miss you!

Comedy Night

This Saturday we went to Alexander's for the comedy night.

Thursday 30 September 2010

A quick post because, following a visit to the cinama last night, I thought we should mention what's on offer in our fair city! One of our regular outings is to the cinema and we are lucky to have two venues to see the latest releases; the Vue at Cheshire Oaks and the Cineworld at Sealand Road. If you want to go further afield, a full listing of all the local venues can be found following this link: http://www.google.co.uk/movies?hl=en&near=chester&dq=cinema+chester&sa=X&ei=aLGkTJuwNcfKjAeWkOSrDA&ved=0CBQQxQMoAA

However, Chester has an active film club which has year upon year, managed to bring those films which do not make it to the big screen, to our city. So if you're a fan and want to look at the smaller budget production, then give them a try!

Also, Theatr Clwyd screens some very good films and is still not too far from chester to miss out:

I promised a more regular update of this blog, so let's not fall at the first hurdle. On Tuesday night, a select group of Newcomers made it to the Cock-o-Barton and had a very enjoyable evening. This is not a blog about restaurants, so don't worry, I'm not going to give you the full low-down on the meal. Instead I wanted to flag up for those who haven't ventured outside Chester much, - and this restaurant is in the heart of Cheshire - how wonderful the scenery is in this part of the world.

You have to take your time to enjoy it and the roads almost force you to do that, I have come to believe that there is no such thing as a straight Cheshire road. But the views are fantastic so don't be deterred! If you actually get out of the car and feel up to some exercise, then the Sandstone trial awaits you. A few of our members are planning some circular walks on that route - it runs from Frodsham to Whitchurch and crosses the Delamere Forest - because to walk to whole track, you do really need two days. It runs past prehistoric hillforts, medieval and Victorian castles; black-and-white and sandstone pubs and farmhouses and attractive historic inns; Roman roads (finally a straight one!), sunken green lanes, packhorse trails and old coach roads! Have I tempted you? Let us know!

Hmmm, haven't been very active on the Blog front, this is about to change! We are still very much alive and with, as somebody so kindly pointed out to me today, the nights drawing in, we will be organising many events. We have already posted some activities in the right hand column and will be updating this on a regular basis.
If you have any questions or comments, please let us know!

Friday 12 March 2010

Since November we've enjoyed a number of events including a splendid Christmas celebration dinner at Mitchells in Tattenhall, a January trip to the Theatr Clwyd Pantomime - a great mix of laughter and rock songs - and in February a very interesting slide show/talk on Chester by an official tour guide, as well as the regular coffee mornings, film nights and pub evenings.

The next Coffee Morning is on Wednesday 17 March - see right for more information - visitors always welcome. On Saturday 27 March we'll be dining at the Cock O'Barton Reataurant, Broxton and next Pub Night is Thursday 8th April at the Red Lion, Dodleston.
